Registered Nurse (RN) | Med/Surg / Orthopedic Location: Parkersburg, WV Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $2,236 per week Shift Information: Days - 3 days x 12 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: ASAP About the Position Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Orthopedic-Client Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience with orthopedic patients and PCA pumps Description: The unit has 33 beds, all private rooms. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 to 6. Required certifications include BLS. Common diagnoses in this unit include elective surgeries such as hips, knees, and shoulders. Patients may also have some fractures from falls and undergo back and neck surgeries. General Medical-Surgical experience is also required. RNs do not need to titrate drips; they handle IV fluids and PCA pumps. There is no requirement for heparin or other drips. The unit has a Charge Nurse available 24/7. The day charge nurse may take patients if necessary; night charge nurses will always take a full patient assignment. Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist on this unit. Typically, there are 3 to 4 PCTs depending on staffing. PCT duties include vital signs, blood sugar checks, activities of daily living, and the ability to discontinue Foley catheters. The unit is equipped for respiratory therapy, including CPAP and BiPAP. Remote telemetry monitoring is available if needed, and RNs do not read telemetry strips. 12-hour shifts run from 0700 to 1930 and from 1900 to 0730, with a 30-minute lunch break. Permanent staff handle self-scheduling, while travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs. Block scheduling may be accommodated as long as unit requirements are met. Every other weekend is required, with weekend shifts for nights being Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and Saturday and Sunday for days. Holiday coverage will depend on unit needs, and travelers may be expected to work during holidays if permanent staff cannot cover. Travelers may float to any Medical Surgical units as needed. If floated to telemetry, patients assigned will be within the RN’s skillset. The dress code requires royal blue scrubs, and if a jacket is worn, it must be a scrub jacket in royal blue. No hoodies or sweatshirt jackets are permitted. Travelers will complete one day of orientation on the unit with a preceptor before working independently.
