to find a qualified Telemetry RN in Parkersburg, West Virginia,
26101! Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered
Nurse) Specialty: Cardiac Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift:
Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years
License: Valid Nursing License Required Certifications: BLS & ACLS
Required Must-Have: Ability to read telemetry strips and
comfortable with cardiac patients Description: The unit is a 43-bed
cardiac telemetry unit. Average nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5,
with potential flexing to 1:6. Common diagnoses include post-heart
catheterization, congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and arrhythmias. Nurses will
titrate Heparin and occasionally Lasix or Bumex. Cardizem and
Amiodarone are not titrated. Nurses will be expected to read
telemetry strips. There are monitor technicians available. Charge
nurses are present 24/7 but may take a patient assignment based on
needs. Patient care technicians assist with a goal ratio of 1:8,
which may flex to 1:12-18 depending on the situation.
Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living,
blood sugar checks, and EKGs. Nurses must be capable of performing
EKGs if the technician is unavailable. Occasional use of high flow
oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP may be required for supportive therapy.
Shifts are 12 hours, either 0700-1930 or 1900-0730. Self-scheduling
is allowed, with accommodation for block scheduling based on unit
needs. Weekend shifts are required every other weekend. Holidays
may require additional work based on unit staffing needs. Travel
staff members may be floated to other areas within their skill set.
Scrub color is royal blue, with scrub jackets allowed if they are
appropriate. Teamwork is emphasized, and staff are encouraged to
assist each other. The pace is fast with numerous admissions and
discharges each day. Nurses are expected to manage their own
admissions and discharges but can ask for assistance if needed. A
unit clerk is available to support the team. Cancellation policy
allows for up to two shift cancellations per 13-week assignment.
