BLS required Must-Have: Experience with orthopedic patients is
required. Experience with PCA pumps is required. Description: The
unit has 33 beds with all private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio
is 1 to 6. Common diagnoses include elective surgeries such as
hips, knees, and shoulders. The unit accommodates patients with
fractures from falls and various neuro-surgeries. General
Medical-Surgical experience is preferred. RNs are not required to
titrate drips but must be familiar with IV fluids and PCA pumps.
Charge Nurses are present 24/7 to support staff. Patient Care
Technicians (PCTs) are available to assist with vital signs,
activities of daily living, and other patient care tasks. Remote
telemetry is available, and nurses do not have to read strips.
Shifts are 12 hours, typically from 0700-1930 or 1900-0730, with a
30-minute lunch break. Self-scheduling is allowed for permanent
staff, while travelers will be assigned as needed.
Every-other-weekend work is required with varying holiday coverage
based on unit needs. Travelers may be asked to float to other
Medical-Surgical units as necessary. The dress code includes royal
blue scrubs, and jackets must also be royal blue. A one-day
orientation on the electronic health record system will be
provided, followed by a day on the floor with a preceptor. After
orientation, the nurse will work independently on the third day.
