Job Description Core Responsibilities The Vice Dean of Addiction
Sciences will report directly to the Dean of the medical school
with the following roles and responsibilities: Commit to a broad
university and community strategy to address the SUD problem
through an integrated multidisciplinary approach. Foster a culture
of excellence, collaboration, and innovation at all levels of
engagement with the SUD crisis. Support the recruitment,
development, and retention of talented faculty and staff members to
ensure the highest standards of care, education and research.
Expand the institutional research infrastructure in the context of
bench to community approaches to addiction and recovery with
emphasis on targeted translational discoveries. Promote
professional growth and development opportunities for faculty and
staff within the addiction sciences division of the medical school.
Oversee the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of
addiction treatment programs and community initiatives. Enhance and
expand existing programs, ensuring they are aligned with the latest
evidence-based practices and research findings. Identify and
develop new programs to address emerging needs in addiction
sciences and community health. Work closely with the executive
leadership team of Marshall Health Network to align addiction
sciences initiatives with the organization’s overall strategic
goals. Partner with the City of Huntington and other community
stakeholders in the region to develop and implement comprehensive
addiction treatment and prevention programs. Enhance collaboration
and strategic integration of the medical school and main university
campus efforts directed at impacting the SUD problems of our region
and beyond. Ensure the efficient and effective management of
resources, including budget planning and oversight, to support the
mission goals related to SUD . Monitor and evaluate program
performance, using data and analytics to drive improvements and
achieve measurable outcomes. Develop and implement strategies to
ensure the sustainability of present and future programs by
securing federal and state grants and by leveraging opioid
settlements. Lead innovative fundraising efforts to support the
growth and sustainability of addiction treatment and community
programs. Engage with donors, grant-making organizations, and other
funding sources to cultivate relationships and secure financial
support. Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for addiction
sciences and treatment, representing The Joan C. Edwards School of
Medicine and Marshall University at local, regional, and national
levels. Engage with policymakers, funders, and other stakeholders
to promote policies and initiatives that support addiction
treatment and prevention.
