Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Clinical Coordinator to help support our Clinical Observation Unit.Clinical Observation can have a broad range of adult patients ambulatory and non-ambulatory, that meet initial criteria for observation. The department will serve to provide efficient protocol-based care to patients with well-defined diagnosis or presenting symptoms such as chest pain, COPD, asthma, and congestive heart failure.The Clinical Coordinator will oversee training and education of the staff and will take on management responsibilities including scheduling and support to the Emergency Department Nurse Manager to improve services, efficiency and patient satisfaction.Clinical Coordinators are responsible for maintaining safe, compassionate nursing care based on current standards and practice. They promote shared decision-making and professional autonomy by providing input into unit-level decisions and keeping the staff informed at the unit level. They problem solve to prevent a potential crisis, assess, evaluate, and manage unit operational issues and assist the nurse manager by sharing on-call responsibilities.The Clinical Coordinator provides education and training based on the staff's needs while making sure that clinical competencies of staff meet standards of practice.The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for:* Education and training of staff based on the specialty area* Staffing and scheduling using the matrix* Completion of payroll* Completion of the unit performance improvement plan* Assisting in the completion of employee evaluations* When needed, serving as a staff nurse. The Clinical Coordinator assures that care is delivered with respect for patient rights and appropriate nursing services.The Clinical Coordinator is accountable for the unit environment in which clinical nursing is practiced. The ability of the Clinical Coordinator to enhance the practice of the environment is critical to the recruitment and retention of registered nurses. Clinical Coordinators contribute to the unit processes, day-to-day operations, standards of care, and attainment of goals of the assigned unit. Clinical Coordinators collaborate with the Nurse Manager in planning, innovation, and evaluation of unit activities.To be considered, candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree, at least three years of experience and current RN license.Job Requirements* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Nursing program required. Master's Degree strongly preferred.* Current RN license or the ability to obtain said license before hire required.* Maintains hospital required certifications.* Maintains 30 contact hours continuing education per year.* Current CPR certification required. Specialty certification preferred.* A minimum of three years direct position-related experience required, five years experience preferred.* The kind of position-related experience includes:* Demonstrated team building skills and leadership ability in the charge nurse role* Demonstrated ability to communicate appropriately and effectively* Demonstrated ability to delegate based on skill level of staff* Experience in effectively dealing with the public.* Knowledge and skill in management of patient care required* Demonstrated skill in management of patient care required* Knowledge of and use of performance improvement* Knowledge of and use of Staffing Matrix and any computer systems/software used by organization.
