Role Purpose

Manage and govern the North American/EMEA Applications Practice to ensure we deliver the highest quality client solutions and insight while growing and scaling our business. We help our clients achieve their Application and portfolio-related goals through:

  • Assessing their portfolios to provide data-driven insights for future investments and strategic decisions
  • Defining a holistic strategy for the modernization and transformation of critical enterprise business capabilities
  • Ensuring a comprehensive plan for the transformation and modernization of architecture and development resources and practices
  • Providing value assurance and oversight for critical project and program management to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Business Building

  • Drive achievement of North American/EMEA Applications Practice financial objectives, individual metrics and contribute to overall Gartner Consulting's financial success
  • Partner with Industry and Practice leadership to identify market demand specifically for Applications optimization and develop solutions that best serve this market
  • Evolve our Applications optimization solutions so our clients view Gartner Consulting's solutions as highly distinctive and deliver expected business outcomes
  • Proactively partner with Industry Leadership, Managing Partners, Research Account Executives and Executive Partners to package, position, sell and deliver Applications Practice solutions to our clients
  • Work with Regional Leadership and Professional Development to define engagement staffing and resolve staffing conflicts and resource contention

Thought Leadership

  • Own productization and creation for Applications solutions and capabilities; focused on developing globally consistent and repeatable solutions
  • Evolve Applications diagnostic tools and offerings to align with Gartner Research, accelerate engagement results and ensure predictable delivery
  • Partner with Global Practice leaders to ensure Applications solutions integrate all relevant Practice capabilities, assets and skills
  • Align offerings to Gartner Research and Premium services to extend these services into Gartner Consulting engagements
  • Be viewed as the 'Go-to' SME for Applications solutions
  • Represent Gartner Consulting and Applications Practice at relevant Gartner Events and Client meetings
  • Work with Practice, Industry and Key Initiative Leadership to identify solution and IP gaps and determine their prioritization
  • Work with Practice, Industry and Key Initiative Leadership to develop complex industry-first/client-first solutions
  • Collaborate with senior Research & Advisory Leaders to envision the future, set the agenda and deliver new Research focused on Applications
  • Establish "feedback loops" between Research & Advisory agenda managers and Consulting Key Initiative Leads to enable open and collaborative information sharing

Client Leadership

  • Drive high customer satisfaction with key client stakeholders through exceptional quality delivery and trust-based relationships leading to prospective account growth
  • Demonstrate the value proposition to clients and internal stakeholders (Sales, Executive Partners, Managing Partners and Practice Leaders) that Gartner Consulting is a "must-have" and natural extension of Gartner Research
  • Partner with Industry Leads and Managing Partners to develop consistent methodologies, proposals, and pricing for Applications solutions
  • Responsible for quality of all North American/EMEA Applications Practice related deliverables
  • Work with Industry and Practice leadership to design relevant and meaningful solutions for key client/accounts
  • Work with Managing Partners for key client/accounts to cement client relationships, identify and generate new opportunities, and secure extensions and expansions
  • Work with Practice Leads, Managing Partners and Engagement Managers to ensure the delivery excellence for all projects within the Practice
  • Work with Managing Partners to provide authoritative representation in sales pursuits and delivery
  • Collaborate with Practice Leads to ensure the successful completion of Practice priorities

People Leadership

  • Build North America's/EMEA's Applications community and coordinate with peers to develop a globally consistent community
  • Build a high-performing team with requisite skill set to sell and deliver Applications solutions
  • Lead and mentor associates to build a scaled capability to deliver high quality Applications solutions
  • Partner with Region Leads to ensure Gartner Consulting hires and trains Practice associates to meet delivery demand for Applications solutions
  • Develop training content for associates with Region Leads and Professional Development
  • Manage the team performance setting clear goals and objectives and establish metrics
  • Develop a broad internal network and collaborate with experts across Gartner to support business activities that include a "One Gartner" approach
  • Work with Region, Practice, Industry Leadership to identify capacity and skills gaps and prioritize hiring opportunities with Geo Leads
  • Work with Region, Practice, Industry Leadership, Recruiting, and Professional Development to build and maintain a talent pipeline through hiring, cultivating, upskilling, and training
  • Focus on educating all Industry Leads and Managing Partners, particularly those that are new, on the Applications Practice solutions and value proposition.
  • Onboard new associates, and coach and mentor senior existing associates
  • Lead and mentor Key Initiative Leads to create solutions that are repeatable, scalable and differentiated
  • Lead and mentor Practice Solution Leads to sell and deliver solutions with high quality, impactful client results

Expected Results

  • New and differentiated Applications solutions that deliver a high level of client value which gives Gartner Consulting a competitive advantage in the marketplace
  • Expert knowledge and advice to clients on their Applications optimization journey
  • Double digit growth of the Applications Practice
  • Sustainable relationships to improve internal and external collaboration

Technical/Professional skills & Competencies

  • Experience managing relationships with C-Suite (e.g. CEOs, CDOs, CTOs, CIOs) at key clients
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree highly preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in management Consulting with focus on Applications and portfolio related optimizations and efficiencies
  • 10+ years hands on experience with enterprise business applications, development of solution architectures, applications development and innovation
  • Strong communication skills, executive presence and strategic thinking skills, prioritization, and problem-solving ability
  • Demonstrated ability to identify market opportunities and drive business development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead consulting Practices, including strong knowledge of consulting business models and metrics
  • Proven track record of successfully leading senior level Consulting associates
  • Ability to develop and sustain executive client relationships as be a trusted business advisor
  • Ability to travel as necessary when client travel resumes (up to 50% of time)
  • Experience with software engineering practices, automation, and design, and cloud native architectures
  • Experience with business and IT transformation, scaling agile within an enterprise
